Unbelievably, an audit on 4,580 tons of US gold kept at Fort Knox hasn't happened in 50 years.
Zero Hedge posted ( X saying that it would be great if Elon Musk took a look to make sure it's still there.
Elon Musk replied ( saying that "surely it's reviewed at least every year?"
Rand Paul then replied ( "Nope. Let's do it"
Ron Paul in a Senate hearing back in 2011 was calling out the lack of transparency around government's gold holdings. There apparently are suspicions that the gold is gone or the bars are gold plated.
Elon's right - there should be a review of this done every year.
If there's an audit, they need to make sure it's actually pure gold.
Back in 2017, Mitch McConnell, Steve Mnuchin, Brett Guthrie, and KY governor Matt Bevin were given access to the depository at Fort Knox to confirm the gold is still there. It's apparently "freakishly well secured" according to Bevin.
