Ramanan Pathmanathan, a 40-year-old Canadian citizen living in Toronto, Canada, ran a years-long online sextortion operation posing as a teenage boy on Instagram and Facebook Messenger to contact and groom more than 145 children (girls and boys, some as young as 6) across the United States.
He coerced the minors into performing sexual acts on video calls, recorded the abuse to produce child pornography, and then blackmailed them by threatening to distribute the material to their families and friends unless they sent more explicit content.
He was previously convicted in Canada on similar charges involving eight victims and sentenced to 12 years there.
Today, he was sentenced to 33 years in federal prison, to run consecutively with his Canadian term, plus 10 years of supervised release and sex-offender registration.
