Brazil slams US after dozens of deportees arrive handcuffed
Geplaatst: 26 jan 2025 20:40
Brazil's government reacted strongly after dozens of Brazilians deported from the U.S. arrived in handcuffs. The foreign ministry called this a "flagrant disregard" for their rights and demanded an explanation from the U.S.
Many deportees faced harsh conditions on the flight, including lack of water and extreme heat. Justice Minister Ricardo Lewandowski highlighted the "degrading treatment."
President Lula ordered the Brazilian Air Force to assist deportees to ensure their safe return. The flight was linked to a 2017 agreement and not directly to recent U.S. immigration orders.
The situation reflects ongoing tensions regarding immigration policies under President Trump.
