Judge orders Jan. 6 rally organizer to pay $2K daily until compliance with subpoena

Bericht door noumoe »

A federal judge ordered Caroline Wren, a Republican fundraiser who organized President Trump’s January 6, 2021, Ellipse rally, to pay $2,000 daily until she complies with a subpoena for event records. U.S. District Judge Donald Middlebrooks criticized Wren’s “pattern of disregard and non-engagement” for delaying a Capitol Police officers’ lawsuit claiming Trump incited the Capitol attack.

Rudy Giuliani, a Trump ally, has also defied a related subpoena in the case. Lawyers have asked a separate judge to enforce his compliance, noting his complete absence from proceedings.

“If these fines prove ineffective, I will consider additional steps to spur her compliance,” Middlebrooks wrote, holding Wren in civil contempt. He mentioned incarceration as a possible sanction but prefers to avoid it.
