Eleanor Holmes Norton - the oldest member of the House of Representatives - has served as a non-voting member from Washington DC since 1991 and announced a controversial run for re-election just last month.
Norton's office confirmed that a group of people who claimed to be HVAC workers tricked her at her DC apartment around 3:30pm Thursday.
She allowed the alleged workers inside but they instead did nothing and charged her for nearly $4,400, using her credit card before a friend and house manager stopped them, NBC4 reported
The police report said that Norton has a caretaker - named in a separate incident report as longtime Norton ally Jacqueline Pelt - with power of attorney because she is in the 'early stages of dementia.'
