The parents of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, as well as his widow, Erika Kirk, are reportedly expected to attend the preliminary hearing that is set to take place next week in the case of Tyler Robinson. Kirk was murdered by an assasin as he spoke at Utah Valley University September 10, 2025. He left behind his wife and two young children as well as his parents and a sister.
A source familiar with the matter told Fox News of the Kirks’ attendance at the hearing, which is scheduled to take place the week of July 6. Robinson’s defense team has attempted to get the hearing paused and was granted a delay from its originally scheduled May dates by Judge Tony Graf.
Earlier in June, the defense sought to have the preliminary hearing paused while they appealed a ruling from Judge Tony Graf that struck down the defense’s motion seeking to remove cameras from the courtroom during the preliminary hearing. The defense appealed to Utah’s Supreme Court, which could still delay the hearing.
The defense has also sought to have so-called reliable hearsay, a type of evidence, blocked from being used by the prosecution during the hearing. Graf turned down that motion. Among the evidence the prosecution plans to present at the week-long hearing is a recording from Robinson’s trans lover Lance Twiggs, who has been granted limited immunity. The defense also sought to have Twiggs testify in-person at the hearing, which Graf denied. This does not preclude him from testifying during the trial.
In May, Graf granted a delay in the preliminary hearing. The hearing was originally set to take place in May. In an April hearing, the defense claimed that it is "clear that Mr. Robinson is prejudiced by the preliminary hearing going forward as scheduled at this point, and it can’t even be remedied in the next four weeks." The defense had sought a four-month extension, but received two.
